Identify strategies that you feel would be helpful to address workforce development needs and issues.

 Let workers be more involved in company decision-making (shifts, etc.) rather than always having management of company administration making those decisions
 Work to improve “in-company” communication (people want to hear about things happening in the business at work rather than downtown)
 Employers could offer orientation and mentoring services for new workers to help new workers understand the “culture” of the company, and begin to “fit in” and make friends immediately. This needs to be an entire company attitude and practice, not just a management philosophy.
 Management in businesses could conduct “follow-up/follow-along” with new employees to check how they are getting along on their new job
 Businesses and communities could work to promote “entire communities” rather than just individual businesses
 Increase the opportunities for networking and communication between agencies involved in workforce development and preparation (regularly scheduled face-to-face)
 Get workforce development agencies, school and businesses to commit to follow-though on job exploration for youth (lots of job exposure, hands-on, and focused)
 Make sure that Clark County residents are fully aware of the various businesses and job opportunities available locally
 Continue economic development efforts for the area
 Assure that workers have access to quality, affordable housing
 Provide assistance to companies needing to recruit migrant workers (Abbyland Meats recently purchased a motel to provide housing for their migrant workers)
 Tours of companies for high school students
 Obtain testimonies from those transplants and returning natives
 Emphasize and implement a strong mentoring program
 Refocus high school career days (interactive)
 Encourage businesses to be involved in the development of career days
 Daily reinforcement of career development
 Teach students about entrepreneurship
 Educate students about reasons for assignments/applications
 To attract employees, market communities outside Clark County
 Technical colleges need to be more proactive in preparing people for employment in Clark County
 Support different options (e.g., adult development services)
 Work with school board, administration, teachers, etc.
 Train supervisors in attracting, retaining, and training employees
